Social media definitely has its pros and cons. On one hand, social media is great at keeping us connected with distant friends and family but on the other, it can negatively impact our children in various ways. When children and teens use social media, it is important for us caring adults to teach them how to use it appropriately. Talk to your kids about the “think twice before hitting ENTER” rule. It is important for children to understand that whenever they are on social media, they need to be careful about what they post as it can lead to them oversharing their personal information or harming others (i.e. cyberbullying). Take a moment to talk with your kids about the potential harm in using social media. To help prepare them to make smart decisions, have them play the Be Internet Awesome game!
