It is not uncommon that families and children today are experiencing tremendous amount of stress that could potentially damage mental and physical health and well-being. Luckily, Dr. Ginsburg from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has identified the 7 C’s of resilience that serves as a guideline for parents to help their children recognize their abilities and inner resources:
- Competence
- Confidence
- Connection
- Character
- Contribution
- Coping
- Control
Competence or the first “C” describes the feeling of knowing that you can effectively handle a situation. We can help children develop competence by identifying their individual strengths, empower them to make their own decisions effectively, and being careful that they do not mistakenly think that we do not think they are competent to handle situations.
