This week is Brain Awareness Week and for the next few days, we will be posting information about our brains and how they work! Today, we will talk about the core functions of the brain. The brain has three main sections of the brain: forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain.
The forebrain is the largest and most complex section of the brain. The forebrain consists of the cerebrum that contains all the information that makes us who we are which includes memory, intelligence, personality, speech, and the ability to feel and move. The cerebrum has left and right halves, called hemispheres:
- Left half: process logical, analytical, objective information (ex. balancing a checkbook)
- Right half: process intuitive, creative, and subjective information (ex. listening to music)
