Have you heard of the science of “flow”? Flow was researched and popularized psychologist, Mihaly Csikszentmihályi, and describes the state one is in when one is completely involved in an activity for its own sake. Time seems to stand still, but it also flies by. We feel present, but the ego melts away. It’s often referred to as being “in the zone”. It’s an evidence-based protective factor against depression, and it also relates to research that shows positive outcomes in preventing substance use among youth.
