According to the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, about 40% of student in the U.S. have been exposed to some form of traumatic event in their lives. Often times, students who have been exposed to trauma will become disengaged and disconnect from their parents, teachers, and peers, making it difficult to learn or maintain relationships. One strategy teachers and parents can help re-engage their kids is to take a brain break. Brain breaks are effective in calming children’s emotions, focus on their breathing and positive energy, and focusing on being in the moment. There are many ways to take a brain break. Here is one way to “brain break” with your kids:
