Is your child about to transition into a new school? Does he or she have any mental or behavioral issues that he or she is dealing with? We always want is best for our kids and it’s important for us to know what behavioral and mental health services schools provide for our children. As we’ve mentioned before, asking the school’s counselor with clear and concise questions will help us get the answers we are looking for. Here are a few sample questions parents should try asking and see what kind of mental health supports schools have for their students:
- What type of student mental health and wellness support services are available?
- How do I refer my student for services if I feel they need additional support?
- What are the policies regarding bullying, harassment and discipline?
- In the event of an actual emergency, what crisis response services and psychological support measures are in place?
