Happy World Kindness Day! To kickoff the day, here is a short video to watch with your kid that explains the benefits of being kind:

After the video, have a discussion with your child about kindness. Have they done something that was kind to someone recently? Why did they do it and how did it make them feel? What random acts of kindness would they like to do to celebrate today? Here are a few easy ideas for kids to practice showing their kindness to others:

  • Write a handwritten letter to a teacher to express appreciation for them.
  • Give friends, family, or neighbors positive and inspiring notes.
  • Set an alarm to go off three times on World Kindness Day. When the alarm goes off, stop what you’re doing and ask your child who they want to call to simply to tell them how awesome they are (The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, 2013).
