Consider showing your child this video of how this college athlete learned to re-frame her negative thoughts for better performance, and more importantly, better mental health. All of us can get stuck in negative self-talk, but did you know that positive thought habits are one of the best protective factors against depression? Most of us (kids and adults) need help and guidance in learning these skills. This video shows one way to re-frame negative self-talk by thinking about what you would say to a friend who said these things about herself. When we learn to re-frame the negative, we learn to cultivate HOPE. Let’s learn this skill together and, more importantly, remind our children to use it frequently.
