If your loved one is thinking about suicide, take the third step and #BeThe1To be there. This could mean being physically present for somoene, speaking with them on the phone when you can, or any other that shows support for the person at risk. Being there for someone with thoughts of suicide is life-saving and listening is again very important during this step. Listen to their reasons for feeling hopeless and in pain. Listen without judgment and with compassion, empathy and respect. As research has shown we have a chance to increase their connectedness to others by listening to our loved one’s thoughts about suicide and alleviate their feelings of hopelessness and psychological pain. #SuicidePreventionMonth #SPM19
